Tennessee real estate continuing education requirements
Short answer
Tennessee affiliate brokers and brokers complete 16 hours of continuing education every two-year renewal cycle, and a portion of that must be the current TREC mandatory core course. The rest is elective, and the whole thing can be completed online.
The 16-hour cycle
Tennessee licenses renew every two years, and each cycle carries a 16-hour continuing education requirement. The hours must be completed before your renewal date — not before the end of the calendar year, before your date.

What the mandatory core covers
The core course is the Commission's way of making sure every licensee in the state hears the same update: current license law changes, agency and disclosure obligations, contract and forms updates, and the enforcement issues the Commission is actually seeing that cycle. It is the one course you cannot substitute.
New licensees are different
Your first renewal is not a normal CE cycle. Newly licensed affiliate brokers complete the required 30-hour post-license course rather than standard CE for that first period, so do not accidentally buy elective hours you cannot use.
Missing the deadline
CE is not something the Commission chases you about. If your hours are not complete at renewal, your license does not renew cleanly, and reinstating is more expensive and slower than simply doing the hours. Put the date in your calendar the day you are licensed.
